MY “PITCH”
CHALLENGE
Squarespace invited me to build a site on camera for Circle Day 2026, their yearly gathering of pro designers. The client was imaginary: Air Skydiving Club, a premium jump center on the cliffs of Oahu with a loyal crew of regulars, a hangar that doubles as a lounge, and a website that didn’t match any of it. Locals and tourists kept asking to buy shirts and gear, and the site had no store.
The brief came with rules. Start from the Air template. Use only the provided photos and the template’s own fonts. Show certain Squarespace features. Record at least thirty minutes of uncut build, knowing their team would trim it to ten. And before any of that, pitch the whole idea Shark-Tank-style in under ten minutes.
SOLUTION
I asked the question I ask on every project before I touch a layout: what do we want people to do here? For this club there were three answers. Book a jump. Join the club. Buy merch. So I built those destinations: a store with sized products, monthly club memberships set up as subscriptions, and a clean contact page.
Then I cleared out the template home page and built a wild one. A skydiver pinned to the screen falls through cliffs, clouds, and a frosted-glass pricing panel as you scroll. The clouds drift. The chute opens just above the reviews. An eagle emoji flies across the reviews, because why not? To let the jumper pass behind things, I used image and shape blocks as fake section backgrounds instead of real ones.
RESULTS
Squarespace asked me to make a pitch video to go with it. Then they had me on Circle Live to talk about the art of the pitch: how to introduce yourself, name the problem, and show the fix without reading from a deck. You can watch that conversation above.
Then they cut the build video down to a ten-minute showcase for Circle Day. You can watch that below as soon as they publish it (I’ve got a placeholder video in there now until they do).
I had such fun on this project, I bought airskydivingclub.com for a year and pointed it to the demo site:
